Under the Data Protection Act, it is a legal requirement that any organisation operating a CCTV image recording system MUST display appropriate warning signs.

To comply with the requirements of the act, the signs must be of an appropriate size, and must be prominently displayed to ensure that they can be easily seen by anyone that may become a subject of the recording.

The signs must also bear appropriate contact details such as contact telephone number and job title of the person responsible for administrating the CCTV system (i.e. just a graphic of a camera is not sufficient)
